Mariachi Latino Band was founded four years ago by Ana Hernandez and Martin Gonzalez. The band was conceived as the first Mariachi group in Saskatchewan. It comprises ten musicians from various nationalities, including Mexican, Colombian, Chilean and Canadian. The members of the band are: Martin Gonzalez (Musical Director & Guitarron/Saxophone), Ana Hernandez (guitar & vocals), Carmelle Pretzlaw (violin), Christian Echeverria (vihuela), Luis Alapizco (trumpet & vocals), Cailyn Leake (trumpet), Andrew Richards (trumpet), Marcel Joseph (violin) and Carmina Burnett (guitar).
To fund their traditional attire and unique musical instruments, the Mariachi Latino Band has conducted multiple fundraisers and applied for grants. The band has performed at over 120 cultural events in Regina, Weyburn, Estevan, Yellow Quill First Nation, Strasbourg, Mossbank, White City, Pilot Butte, Fillmore, Carlyle, Regina Beach, Prince Albert, Assiniboia, Creelman, Buffalo Pound, Shaunavon, and Last Mountain Lake in Saskatchewan and Brandon, Notre Dame de Lourdes in Manitoba and Calgary in Alberta.
The Mariachi Latino Band has represented Saskatchewan in important cultural festivals such as the SaskJazz Festival in Saskatoon, MexiFest in Calgary, Tapestrama in Prince Albert, Fun Days in Carlyle, Latino Pavilion with Mosaic in Regina, and Taste of Nations in Weyburn and Estevan.
The band was nominated and awarded the Saskatchewan Latin Awards 2025 for Best Latin Group of the Year. It has recently recorded its first album and has been presenting its work at prominent festivals across Canada.
